The Bonsall Mustang II is a single-seat, monoplane design aircraft. The aircraft was originally built as the ‘Mk I’ by Mr D Bonsall who designed the aircraft by calculation and then drawn to the figures. The result was it looked like a Mustang so hence the name. It was called a replica in order not have a G reg. It first flew in 1991 as the Mk1; the aircraft operated in this form until 1998 but only flew 78 hours. It had since been rebuilt with modifications including the installation of a six cylinder Lycoming IO-540 engine to replace the four cylinder 0-360 originally fitted, larger fuel tanks, reinforced wing and tail surfaces, shortened ailerons, lengthened flaps, larger mainwheels, re-profiled tail surfaces and an increase in MTWA to 2920 lb. A retractable undercarriage and flaps were fitted to the aircraft. The aircraft first flew at the Mk2 in 2011 and since then has only flown 57 hours totaling 131 airframe hours. Apart from being immaculate the aircraft benefits from very low hours The aircraft was spin tested successfully and the flight test report and LAA Magazine articles are available on request. |
